Mateo Gil

Mateo Gil (he/him/el) is a first generation son of Salvadorian and Mexican immigrants. He is a dedicated community organizer with a strong background in community building, popular education, policy analysis, advocacy, and project management. In his previous role as Community Organizer at Strategic Actions for a Just Economy, he co-led the KeepLAhoused Campaign at SAJE in collaboration with the keepLAhoused coalition where he worked with city officials to strengthen tenant protections in the City of Los Angeles. As a Public Allies alum, he was recognized with the California State Legislation Certificate for his leadership in advancing social justice in South LA. As a reconnecting Yaqui he feels strongly about supporting Indigenous communities in their defense against physical and cultural extermination. He is currently a returning student studying Botany at Cerritos College. In his free time he also enjoys reading, connecting with nature, and fostering community healing spaces. He is Volunteer Coordinator Intern.
